MLS Ransomware Attack Update

MLS Ransomware Attack Update (August 28, 2023)

Here's the latest update on the ransomware attack that hit the Rapattoni MLS system across the country, taking down the San Francisco and Marin County MLSs for a good two weeks.

Good news - both systems have been restored and are operational. There are still some kinks to iron out, but everything is up and running.

Currently, agents and appraisers are experiencing issues with photos loading, particularly for past listings. This poses a challenge when conducting pricing research and gathering data on previously sold homes. Photos are crucial in assessing a property's value, as they reveal the condition, layout, yard space, views, and other qualitative characteristics.

Many agents have mentioned keeping their out-of-area MLS memberships that they joined during the outage -- at least for now. With lingering issues in the system, it's not a bad idea to maintain multiple memberships concurrently to ensure all tasks can be completed.

Progress has been made, but there's still work to do in smoothing out the remaining issues.
